About Us
The Post-Exchange was created in 2009 as the premier news platform for
the McCormick Freedom Project’s journalism initiative. The Post-Exchange
plays a central role in the journalism initiative’s goal to expand and
promote the benefits of lifelong civic engagement among citizens of all
ages, through original and objective reporting, commentary and news
aggregation on First Amendment and freedom issues.
The McCormick Freedom Project is offering content on the Post-Exchange
for re-publication free of charge with the Freedom Project’s permission
and credits. Please contact managing director, Shawn Healy, at
shealy@mccormickfoundation.org
for more information.
Founded in 2005, the McCormick Freedom Project is part of the McCormick
Foundation. The Freedom Project’s mission is to enable informed participation
in our democracy by demonstrating the relevance of the First Amendment and
the role it plays in the ongoing struggle to define and defend freedom. The
McCormick Freedom Project offers programs and resources for teachers, students,
and the general public.
Our name
Many newspapers are named the “Post” and in the Web 2.0 world “post” is a term
used to describe the comments, photos, videos and other forms of expression
published to the Internet. In taking Post as part of our name, we seek to
champion the core values of good journalism through our work, and to connect
to our readers in the new media landscape that our news Web site inhabits.
“Exchange” comes from the sharing of information in the marketplace of ideas,
and we hope this forum will become part of that dialogue. The McCormick
Freedom Project invites everyone to post and exchange their ideas on the
news of the day that is featured in this forum.
FAQs
Do news articles on the Post-Exchange advocate the views of the McCormick Freedom Project or the McCormick Foundation?
No. The Post-Exchange is not an advocacy journalism Web site. Our staff writers are professional journalists who are committed to objective reporting and ascribe to the journalistic standards of accuracy, fairness, balance and accountability to readers.
If the McCormick Freedom Project is a First Amendment organization, why doesn’t the Post-Exchange have a comments section for articles or reader forums?
We’re still in the process of building this Web site. Users will be able to comment on articles in 2010 when we add more features to the site. Stay tuned!
Why isn’t your Question of the Week a poll that compiles statistics?
Again we’re still in the process of building this Web site. Real time results for the Freedom Poll will be available in the future. Please keep checking back with us!
