Mission
The McCormick Foundation advances the ideals of a free democratic
society by investing in our children, communities and country.
Organization Overview
The McCormick Foundation is one of the nation's largest charitable organizations
originally established as a charitable trust in 1955 upon the death of Col. Robert
R. McCormick, the longtime editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune. Since 1955,
the foundation has awarded more than $1 billion to support our children, communities
and country.

Grant Making Programs
- Journalism program - helps cultivate a free, vigorous and diverse news media by
investing in several priority areas, including news leadership, youth initiatives,
free speech, journalism education and special projects
- Communities program - seeks to stimulate local philanthropy and improve community
life through collaborative partnerships with strategically selected businesses and
nonprofit organizations
- Citizenship program - develops an informed, actively engaged citizenry and creates
opportunities for participation in our democratic society and oversees the McCormick
Conference Series
- Education program - seeks to create a statewide system that provides access to quality
early care and education for all children and to improve the quality of programs
serving Chicago's youngest children in low-income communities by investing in
public policy, public awareness, accreditation and professional development
- Special initiatives program - provides support for nonprofit organizations, primarily
in Chicago, when exceptional one-time opportunities exist and focuses on education,
cultural events, social service agencies, civic institutions and health institutions

Cantigny Park & Golf
Cantigny is where memorable family experiences happen. Located in Wheaton, Ill.,
the 500-acre park offers vast formal gardens, picnic and camping grounds, a top-ranked
public golf course and two museums: the Robert R. McCormick Museum and the Cantigny
First Division Museum. Cantigny stimulates minds and connects people through extensive
programs and services.
Cantigny First Division Foundation
The Cantigny First Division Foundation promotes public learning about America's
military heritage and affairs, as well as honors and remembers the Big Red One -
the famed 1st Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. The foundation chronicles and
preserves the Big Red One's illustrious and courageous contributions, as well
as conducts public outreach through the Cantigny First Division Museum, Robert R.
McCormick Research Center and the Cantigny Military History Series.
