about
On March 1, 2009
the Freedom Project launched an educational outreach
program that replaced its physical location in downtown Chicago.
This new initiative expands our capacity to serve students of
various disciplines in schools throughout Chicagoland. School
outreach programs will inspire students to learn more about
their freedoms and the role the First Amendment plays in an
ongoing struggle to define and defend those freedoms.
Discovery Trunks are available to middle school teachers who
are looking for innovative ways to bring their curriculum - and
the stories of those who have struggled to claim their freedom -
to life. Themed Discovery Trunks feature artifact reproductions
and multimedia in kits that illuminate the lives of historical
figures such as Barbara Johns, Sojourner Truth, Abraham Lincoln,
Alice Paul and Frederick Douglass.
